384th Infantry Division
was set up on January 10, 1942 at the
Truppenübungsplatz Königsbrück
(Konigsburg Training Area) as one of the so-called "Rhine Gold" divisions. Immediately upon formation, the division was sent to southern part of the Eastern Front and took part in the
Second Battle of Kharkov
. After the conlusion of that battle, the division (along other units) advanced further southeast in the direction of the river Don and the city of Stalingrad. Eventually it was encircled in
Stalingrad
and destroyed in January 1943.
