    Description

This dogtag was sold by the relatives of Wermacht veteran from Kiel after he passed away. He kept it his whole life, but for whatever reason his relatives decided to part with it.
    Jnf.Ers.Btl 65
    stands for
    Infanterie-Ersatz-Bataillon 65
    (
    65th Reserve Infantry Battalion
    ).

The battalion was set up on August 26, 1939 in
    Delmenhorst
    (Wehrkreis X).
On October 1, 1942, the battalion was split into two parts: 65th Reserve Infantry Battalion and 65th Infantry Training Battalion.
On November 7, 1942 both of them were renamed as "Grenadier" battalions.
During the war, soldiers from this battalion did their part by reinforcing many other units, but in the last months of the war the whole battalion
    was
    directly deployed to the frontline
    as part of the
    180th Infantry Division
    and saw action in
    Netherlands
    , among other places.
